Al Hunter Jr. — Church Council President

Al Hunter Jr. serves as the President of our Church Council, bringing a lifetime of leadership, creativity, and service to our congregation. A retired Philadelphia teacher, Al dedicated decades to urban education, shaping the lives of countless students with his commitment to learning and community.

Beyond the classroom, Al is an award‑winning journalist with nearly 30 years of experience writing editorials, features, and columns. His work has appeared widely, including ongoing contributions to the Chestnut Hill Local, where he explores Philadelphia’s history, culture, and community stories.

Al is also a gifted jazz flutist active in the city’s music scene, as well as an accomplished author. He co‑authored Thou Shalt Not Steal, the autobiography of Negro Leagues catcher Bill “Ready” Cash, a work honored by the Society for American Baseball Research for its contribution to preserving Negro Leagues history.

We are grateful for Al’s wisdom, creativity, and steadfast leadership within our church community.
